Phillipsburg boys basketball, led by Coach Lloyd, trained the entire off season for the 2019-2020 year. They have fresh new feet that are ready to get some varsity experience. The team suffered some losses from last year’s team, but that is not going to stop the Liners from being notorious this year.
Unfinished business:
When asked about team goals, returning varsity player Brandon Yale brought up their unfinished business. Last season the Stateliners suffered two big losses at the championship of the county tournament and the second round of states. Yale and his teammates are going to make sure to avenge last year’s losses.
Underclassmen:
The 2018-19 team was filled with talented seniors, for all the starters of last year’s team graduated. Underclassman are going to have to step up big time this year for the Liners. Few members of the team have varsity experience. That is not going to be a problem if they stick to what they know and what they’ve been taught. According to Brandon Yale, communication on defense is huge. He mentioned the team did a good job with it at their scrimmage against Summit where they came out with a win, but it could always improve.
What we’ve seen:
The Liners faced Summit High School on Tuesday night. Phillipsburg won both halves of the scrimmage, but like every sport, things can always be improved. Underclassmen are going to play an enormous role in this year’s team. For one, Phillipsburg sophomore Josh Borelli, made five three pointers in a row, which gave the Liners their huge lead. Along with Junior starter Colin Domzalski who led the team nicely.
The 2019-2020 team is working harder and harder every day at practice and learn more each time they touch the ball. As Brandon Yale said, “As long as we go out and compete with good energy, we can hang with any team.”
