Bangor Falls to Pen Argyl in 101st Rivalry Game

Saturday October 31, Bangor set out to conquer the hill. Despite the abnormalities that surrounded this football season, the boys and the coaches entered this game with high spirits and a great mentality. Head Coach Reduzzi spoke on Bangor tradition prior to the game start. He said, “There are 12 boys on this team who have fathers who have played in this rivalry game, Pen Argyl only has 2. Tradition is our motivation for today.” 

Pen Argyl’s Head Coach Mutton spoke on how a victory in this game would establish them into the five seed for districts. They had a high confidence level coming into this year’s rivalry game after winning the 100th game last October.

In the first quarter, Pen Argyl’s Dylan Ashenfalder had a 37-yard INT return to give the Knights their first touchdown over the Slaters. Leaving the quarter with a 1st & 10 against Slaters ,Andrew Couillard, the Slaters remained optimistic. 

Later into the first half, Pen Argyl’s Gavin Amerman had and interception of 90 yards for the Green Knights only to be called back to the 15 because of sideline interference and an illegal block. With 56 seconds left in the half, Bangor’s Kael Godshalk tied up the score 7-7. 

The Slaters receive the second half kickoff with high excitement coming from the sidelines. With 7:58 left in the third quarter, Bangor’s Joe Genteel scored in a fourth & three to bring the score to 14-7. Not long after, Pen Argyl answered to tie the score up again to 14-14 with 3:42 left in the third. 

Both teams continued to battle into the fourth quarter when Bangor’s CJ Miles completed a 76-yard touchdown to bring the score to another tie of 21-21. With 17 seconds left in the game, Pen Argyl scored to win the game 28-21. 

Both teams had a well fought and competitive game. Both were looking to continue their seasons, however due to positive COVID-19 cases in surrounding areas, district games are put on hold for the time being.
