What would Thanksgiving be like without football? Catasauqua and Northampton kicked off their 97th turkey day game at Al Erdosy Stadium at 10am. It was cooler than it had been the past few days and the winds did not make it any better.
Northampton (9-2) was hoping to continue their outstanding season with a win on turkey day. While Catasauqua (0-10) was hoping to get their first win of the season. Even though records do not matter in this game, each community would still like to have a win on Thanksgiving Day.
Unfortunately for the Catasauqua community, they did not get what they were hoping for. Northampton scored four touchdowns in the first quarter alone which gave way to a complete blowout, the final score was 63-0. This was the sixth consecutive loss that the Rough Riders had against the K-Kids.
It was a big day for some Northampton football players, especially for senior Tyrese Brandon. During today’s contest, Brandon was named the all time leader in receiving yards.
Some Catty players also had a few good plays to try and get the Roughs on the scoreboard. This included freshman Anthonie Hunsicker along with seniors Adam Reinhart, Riley Reinhard, and Jakeem Jourdain.
Each year after every Thanksgiving game one player from each school gets the MVP award. This year it was awarded to Northampton’s Tyrese Brandon and Catty’s Jakeem Jourdain.
Since football season is now behind us, we look ahead at basketball season. The Catasauqua Boys Basketball team kicks off their season at home against Northampton in a non-league game next Friday December 6, 2019 in the CHS gym at 6:45pm.
