Emmaus Hangs On To Beat Liberty 31-28

Liberty came to East Penn School District Stadium on Friday night to take on the Hornets. Liberty came into the game hoping to snap a three game losing streak. Emmaus also wanted to get the taste of a loss out of their mouths. Liberty deferred the opening kickoff which meant a dangerous Emmaus offense got the field first.

Liberty’s defense forced a three and out. Liberty went three and out on their first drive. On the next drive, Jake Moyer was leading the Hornets down the field until he was intercepted by Kyle Jimenez. Liberty took the interception down for first and goal. Liberty couldn’t get In on first, second, or third down. They tried on fourth down and still couldn’t get in.

Emmaus now had the ball at their own nine-yard line. Brandon Camire took the ball all the way down the field for a touchdown. This 91-yard touchdown run matched his season long for a touchdown. Emmaus was ahead 7-0 after one.

In the second quarter, Liberty’s offense got it going, marching down the field. Dallas Holmes drove the ball to the one-yard line where Jayden Canada punched it in. The score was 7-7 mid second quarter. Emmaus now had the ball. They drove down the field and Alex Orlando nailed a 30-yard field goal to put Emmaus up 10-7 going into halftime.

Liberty took their opening drive of the second half right down the field where again Jayden Canada scored. Now leading 14-10, Liberty looked to their defense for a stop. They did not get one.

Emmaus drove down the field beautifully and ended their drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Camire. Emmaus was back on top 17-14. Liberty would be forced to punt on their next drive which gave Emmaus the ball back late in the third. Jake Moyer found Jack Ogutu for a 50-yard catch and run TD as the clock hit zeros In the third. Emmaus was up 24-14 after three quarters.

Liberty got the ball back but yet again were forced to punt. The return man, Brandon Camire, ripped off a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown. Emmaus led 31-14 in the fourth. Liberty was in a lot of trouble. However, they wouldn’t give up. They drove down the field. Dallas Holmes found McNeil for a 35-yard touchdown. Emmaus continued to lead 31-21 over Liberty with 5:59 left in the fourth.

Emmaus wasn’t able to go anywhere on their next drive. They were forced to punt. Dallas Holmes drove his Hurricane offense down the field and found Jayden Canada for a receiving touchdown. With 1:22 left in the game, the score was 31-28.

Liberty couldn’t recover the onside kick. They were out of timeouts and that wrapped up the game. Emmaus came out in victory formation and started celebrating.

Emmaus held on for a 31-28 victory to improve to 4-2 overall, they will host Allentown Central Catholic next Friday for the homecoming game at 7:00pm. Liberty falls to 2-4 overall, they will host Nazareth next Friday at seven.
