Freedom Football falls one-yard short to Parkland in the Semifinals

Parkland High School traveled to BASD stadium on Friday, November 8, 2019 to take on Freedom in the District 11 6A semifinals. Freedom lost to the Trojans with the score of 32-40.

Freedom was in control the whole first half up 20-10 going into the break. The Trojans came out firing in the second half. The Parkland Trojans came back from a 17-point deficit and clinched a 40-32 road win against Freedom High School in the District 11 6A Semifinals. 

The Trojans took a 32-26 lead with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Angel Santos. The Trojans defense set up their offense with good field position because of an interception which lead to an 11-yard touchdown run by Angel Santos making the score 40-26 with 1:59 renaming in the game. 

Freedom’s Jared Jenkins threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Axel Vega making the score 32-40 with 26 seconds remaining in the game. 

After recovering an onside kick, the Patriots almost had a miracle at BASD stadium when Jared Jenkins threw a 39-yard pass to Owen Johnson-McCormick as time expired. He was stopped at the one-yard line by Nick Johnston. 

Parkland Junior, Isaiah Rico, rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown. 

Angel Santos rushed for 27 yards and two touchdowns. 

Parkland QB, Ty Tremba, completed 7/16 passes for 144 yard and one touchdown, and also rushed for 70 yards.

Freedom’s QB, Jared Jenkins completed 13/24 passes for 270 yards and three touchdown. He also had 89 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

The Parkland Trojans advance to the District 11 6A championship against Nazareth High School. That game will be played Friday November 15, 2019.
